Pris Vasquez
Pris is a Chicana photographer, videographer, and visual artist from South Texas. Her work spans more than ten years, focusing on capturing the enduring qualities of human interactions, social movements, and natural landscapes. Her style, called timeless photography, focuses on capturing movement, rhythm, and flow by documenting events as they happen naturally, without interference or guidance. She is the creative artist behind the Memorias & Recuerdos family oral tradition project that preserves intergenerational cultural legacies. Currently, she is working on an experimental documentary on Maya sacred talking circles. Pris is studying Mexican American Studies at San Antonio College and has also served as a community fellow, archival researcher, and media producer with the Democracy + Media Lab at UC Berkeley.
Javi mateos-campos, Ph.D.
Javi is a Chicano educator and emerging scholar expanding the possibilities of qualitative research and the visual arts. He recently completed his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA). In his dissertation, he collaborated with the student organization El Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, also known as M.E.Ch.A. He employed an arts-based methodology called a/r/tography, which combined collage and archival research to examine the identity development of student activists. He is the co-creator of the Maya Dialectic Method and is currently producing an experimental documentary film on sacred talking circles. He has multiple publications and has presented widely at academic conferences, including the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (NCORE). Javi is also a photographer, videographer, and archival researcher, specializing in digital humanities. He is the creator of Yagesero Sound, an independent audio archive of ceremonial music and oral traditions collected throughout Colombia, Mexico, and the United States.
